I really felt like eating those sour patch candies.

You may think it sounds silly, but that's what I did and I lost 15 lbs. of excess weight because I had a sweet tooth, similar to you.





I do not keep sweets in the house. If they are not there, I won't go make a special trip for them when I have late night munchies.





If I have to give into my sweet tooth - I eat dried fruit (contains sugar, but it's better for you than sweet junk food) and fresh fruit, and/or yogurt.





Trust me - it may not seem like it... but eventualy you will stop CRAVING the things you speak of. Granted, every now and then it's okay to have something, but don't fool yourself.... if you start up again, you will continue wanting those very things that are adding calories!!

Reply:every time you want a snack, think what will happen in one month or so. would you regret making this decision? also, exercise really helps. drinking a lot of water is supposed to help someone eat less too.

Reply:you have to train yourself to eat different and healthier. I was a pepsi freak. I drank about 2 2liters a day. If i went a whole day with out drinking pop i would get really bad headaches. I meet this guy and somehow, i got me to stop drinking pop. Well first i started drinking diet pop. He told me that it takes 21 days for your taste buds to change, he said if i forced myself to drink diet pepsi after a couple of weeks i wouldnt be able to tell the difference. I tried and it work. After a while i couldnt tell the difference. Then after a while he said that he was going to get me to stop drinking diet pop. So now i dont drink pop at all. I drink water mostly. And i'am starting to eat better to. I eat smaller portions every 2 hours, and i really dont be hungry, it's alot healthier, and i'am losing weight. It's just a mental thing. You just have to change one step at a time. You can do it.

Do the following:





1. Instead of stocking up lots of fatty food at one time, split the meal times into 5 or 6 times a day. Be sure to drink water to help reducing the mass of that extra glucose. This keeps your metabolism going, so your body doesn't store the unused fat.





2. Exercise a little everyday.





3. Like recommended, don't eat so much fat food. On top of that, these are the "indestructable fat". They don't really get broken down by your body's enzymes, so they pile up in your arteries %26amp; veins and cause you to have cardiac arrest later.
Reply:It isn't as simple as "Just stop eatting". Try substituting your food with heathly alternatives. I'm not saying instead of carrot cake eat a carrot. Try looking for 100 calorie packs of oreo's instead of eatting the big double stuff bag. If you stick to smaller portions and prehaps lower calorie food, you should be alright. If not, try to partake in new activities. Find something you REALLY love to do....I find myself being overweight, that going to the gym gets boring, but instead, I'll go out and play some sports. When you're having fun, it doesn't seem like exercise is that bad. You might even forget you're working out. And last thing....don't STRESS about it, stress causes you to gain more weight than you should be.... which isn't helping the problem.

Reply:Whenever I have a craving for sweets and I just want to nibble, I grab a bag of sugar snap peas. They're slightly sweet and fun to mindlessly chew on while watching tv. As for sodas, just switching to non-carbonated drinks helps more than you know. Try lightly sweetened teas, or fruitdrinks.

Reply:As someone who recently started dieting and exercising regularly.... I know it ISN'T easy to change a routine. What I did to kind of ween myself off the sweets was to switch to Weight Watchers! They have great snack foods also! However... You can have any kind of snack/sweets.... IN MODERATION... Know your limits. Never over-indulge! Throw away all the sweets, soda, cakes, and cookies and go to the grocery store and buy fruits, veggies, DIET SODA.... Better yet, no soda. WATER is great. As well as juices. It really is about a lifestyle change... If you're SERIOUS about it, you will get to the point where the sweets aren't as tempting. Good luck!!!

Reply:I love sweets to. One way i cure my chocolate craving is those equate drinks cuz i dont like slimfast but it helps. I just put it on ice. if u eat lots of sweets reward yourself like on the weekends. use the mini candy bars. Trust me i just went thru the same thing.

How not to want sweets: Eat. I don't know about you, but I find when I start cutting back on food (real food, like meat, whole grain, fruit vegetable... not junk, like stuff with hydrogenated fats, sugar, and soy in them), such as missing meals or eating little during each meal, I start to gain more weight. And I crave CONSTANT SWEETS. When I eat more often, and higher quantities of those good foods, I begin losing again. If I am getting what I really need, when I really need it, my body lets me know: it doesn't crave all the junky stuff. If my body feels satisfied, it won't ask. Oh, and I've found eating apples (I started liking Braeburn especially lately), watermelon that's especially juicy (ohhhh sooooo yummy.. Costco seems to always have all good ones when it's in season), or other sweeter fruits curb the craving for me. I had an apple earlier and it tasted deliciously sweet. But remember to reserve anything sweet for after meals (fruit included, as it may not be sugar but can still cause a similar reaction on an empty stomach). Also try substituting honey fo anything that calls for sugar... it doesn't always work as well, but it may still work fine. Also remember, if you must have sweets or really starchy things (like pasta... try to stick to brown rice or whole wheat pasta, and similar... http://www.azurestandard.com/ has some great brown rice pastas, esp. Tinkyada brand), it's best to wait to have them until after a meal. If your body is starved, then suddenly gets sweets, it'll think it was a famine and it'll retain all the sugar you give it, and spike your system, etc. Eat filling (but not stuff yourself) meals that are balanced for a few days and never remain hungry, then see if you still want any sweets!

Reply:the easiest way to stick with a diet is to not even have that junk food around you. throw is out if you can, or if others in your house object make sure they realize you're trying to eat right, so keep the junk food out of sight. make sure you have a wide variety of healthy snacks to chose from instead.

Reply:Don't completely deprive yourself.. you'll loose the battle and end up feeling crappy about yourself. Say you like chocolate.. get some jello-pudding packs that are sugar free and allow yourself one after you've eaten a good dinner. Jello is also good. Eat good food to fuel your body and eat portions that are the size of your fist. YOU CAN DO IT!!

find a good alternative if its cookies have oatmeal and only one! If its pudding have yogurt if its chocolate let me know i have an antioxidant chocolate that's fat free and only 70 cal a piece and very filling and very satisfying. (And tastes amazing, not all waxy like most low cal low fat choc.)

Reply:I am in the same situation as you are. Let me try giving you a little tips..try healthy bar snack or drink a fiber/protein shake and drink a lot of water . It really feels up the hunger, and if all else fail.. try to go walking, take a long bath, or do something to get you to think about eating..


one other thing,


join a gym after school or join a sports team at school and usually that will take up your whole day and by the time you get home it will be dinner time. :)
Reply:Ok never go down the wrong path for a healthy diet. Do what all the other stars do, when you are going o reach for something sweet go aim for frozen fruit like grapes strawberries and raseberries. Buy the fruit then stick them in the freezer and they taste deliciouse!
Reply:go buy some doves! and freeze them. keep away form junk food if you want to loose those 45 lbs! you arent going to get anywhere if you keep eating junk food. they say the first 2 weeks are the hardest to keep away from junk food. i used to be liek you .i would always come home from school and eat ice cream, cookies, soda, bags of chips and everything. just put eveything down and say NO and have some self contol over your self. try drinking some non-fat or low fat chocolate milk or strawberry milk. when you eat a bunch of junk food you are not hungry for dinner. so eat an apple wiht some carmel or peanut butter. those are more healthy alternatives to curb your sweet tooth. or just ignore it all together.

Reply:Eat some carrot sticks, small salad, or some string cheese or something instead of all that candy. Or you could buy some appetite suppresents at Walgreens, it will make you not hungry
Reply:when someone asks how to lose weight and people answer "stop eating junk food" it drives me absolutely insane. You can't change your eating habbits at the drop of a hat, and its very very hard to control.


I found for myself, that when i'm eating something i know i shouldn't be, i think about something disgusting and try to convince myself that the food i'm eating is gross. That's how i stopped eating fast food. I just convinced myself i didn't like it. Most of it is mental.


If you still want some snacks, make sure you divide the whole thing. Like if you buy a huge bag of chips or cookies, the first thing you should do when you get home is get small baggies, and make servings. That way you know how much you're eating, and you don't eat the whole bag. You can still have the bad tasty things, you just have to watch it.


Also, to help control your hunger, eat tiny things throughout the day, like an apple, celery sticks or trail mix so you don't go crazy and devour something bad for you in large amounts.
Reply:write yourself a note in the morning. get your bathing suit and keep it around. Get home and eat healthy things. go for a jog, but write a note to tell what you're doing. and go some where some what populated. but i think the most important part is to keep eating.

What a bunch of sad people on here. This question makes complete sense if they have been following the thread of this topic (no pun intended). They really need to get out more often. I will post and let you know Doc when I get a violation for answering you.

Raisins are usually sweet enough to curb my cravings. Maybe raisins and peanut butter?

I eat frozen grapes. They're sweet and good for you. Plus you can take them to work and they'll keep for a good long time.
Reply:I chew gum. It's less calories and gives your mouth something else to focus on until the craving goes away. Another great solution is drinking a lot of water. Most cravings are quieted down after drinking 16 oz of water or so. Do this throughout the day and it will help.
Reply:You could freeze sugar free whipped cream and eat it with fresh fruit....sort of tastes like ice cream and its not too unhealthy..

Reply:i eat whole food peanut butter mixed with flaxseed. The trick is to mix it really good(it comes with oil separated from peanut base) and then place it in refrig.





Do eat high fat foods. There is a direct craving mechanism when you consume high fats food for sugar.





Consume 1-2 table spoons of grounded flax seed before each meal. This keeps my sugar craving at bay.





I also take 1 cinnamon(2 grams) 30 minutes before each meal.





Also Note: Consuming flax seed will interfere with absorption of all medications and supplement. Waiting 2 hours after flax seed consumption is necessary for any vitamins or supplements.





And since I work out daily- I can consume at least 30 grams of sugar directly after a workout with no harmful rise in my blood sugar. Why ? The sugar replenishes the glucose in my liver first. This is a cool little sugar cheat I found.





Stay hydrated !!! 2 to 3 liters of water a day. This helps me as well. At first you will go to bathroom, but your body will so get use to it AND you will feel so much better and less cravings.

I haven't gotten in nearly as much credit trouble as soom out there, but I do spend more than I should...on little things. It's that 10% that will kill you. I buy snacks at work, McDonalds on the way home (nothing I can't pay in one month, but more than I should pay).





I am trying to kick this habit, but with all the stress I have at work (I would not be suprised if I was fired tomorrow for instance), I find fast-food as my calm-down stress reliever.





Any ideas to help me kick this bad habit that has led to dental bills and could lead to diabetes if I let it continue at this rate. I am not a chronic impluse-buyer but it is still there and I want to kick it so I can save more.

Reply:The money you're spending on your sweet tooth will be the least of you're worries if you're using food to sooth your anxiety. Take the money you're spending at McD's and try a behavioral therapist or even something like weight watchers. If you don't need it yet, you're well on your way.
Reply:Stress is terrible on your body. But since you know it is stress that triggers the purchases, can you try substituting something else instead of eating? I KNOW it is difficult, but try taking a few deep breaths, exercising or meditation. Something that will give you just a minute or two to get a handle on why you are doing what you're doing. Think about how you feel after you have eaten or when you receive the credit card bill. Maybe create a wish list of things you would like to get for yourself. Before you stop at McDonald's take a moment to remember something on the list that you could get for yourself if you just skip McDonald's this once.

Reply:Stop at the gym on the way home instead of stopping for fast food. Working out for 30 mins 3-5 days a week will calm your stress and help you get some sleep. Go to the grocery store and buy fruit...it's naturally sweet and gets you out of the office. If you really want get rid of the stress...look for a new job!

go to the dollar store and buy a bunch of things. then when you've spent the money thats it. you cant spend anymore no matter how much you want to.


another option that you have is to not carry a lot of money with you and/or credit cards. for example if you only carry $40 and then maybe a credit card or two you're not going to have the money to spend even if you wanted to. also budget things out and put it in envelopes. put a candy budget envelope so you dont feel guilty about spending the money but you can still spend it without getting further into debt.

Your options are almost endless sweetheart! You could go for a candy bar or cupcake thingy from the vending machine down the hall. You could go to the gas station and get an ice cream or a slurpee. Ooooh, go to jack in the box and get some of their chocolate cake. mmm. sonic has good milkshakes and so does chick-fil a. Go to the grocery store in the bakery section and get a cake or some cookies...


AND then when you get home you might still want something sweet, so do go by the store and get a cake mix or a brownie mix. You'll feel so much better...

Reply:Powdered doughnuts are too crumbly, Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies are too crunchy .. but the Bagel with strawberry cream cheese is chewy, creamy, fruity, and delicious and much more satisfying.. :)

My all time favorite sweet tooth craving is frosted flakes with eagle brand milk poured over them. It is so sticky and gooey you really cant use a spoon but man it is so good. I am 27 weeks pregnant and I am lovin the sweets. ALL THE TIME! I actually went a little nuts and bought a giant pack of full-size bars of 3 musketeers, Milky Way, Snickers, and Twix. All my faves in 1 box. My husband thinks I am nuts, but I have had a sweet tooth for as long as I can remember. Started in the womb, I think.

because of my diabetes i have had to cut back on my consumption of added sugar amd harder to do hidden sugar.the trick is to do it very slowly and allow your palate to regain sensitivity and in the end you will find the taste of sugar disgusting


this opens up another problem as you then will be unable to eat much of the stuff in the supermarket


the levels of sugar in supermarket food afe doing all sorts of mischief and is the great unspoken crime of our time


get your sweetness from fruit and increase your vegetable intake


a tip i did not try to get rid of sugar in my tea is to replace it with honey as a sort of methadone substitute


the authorities have done us all a great injustice cos the sugar habit is almost impossible to break once established

Reply:i love the rich red velvet cake and i don't know the cream that goes with it... i just know that it's white. the richness and thickness is sooooo GOOD. it is THE BEST. no doubt. but there's also this other cake, i don't know what it's called - and well, i think it's more of a cake than cookie? but anyway, it's only about an inch to an inch and a half thick and has three of 4 different colored layers. yellow, green, pink? and it's sweet. they have it at acme? i also had it at a grand opening of a sephora just recently. i think that was similar to the acme one. but those two are just fabulous! the red velvet one is better though esp from this place here in philly.

What are some ways to tame a sweet tooth?

Other than the obvious solution of exercising will power, what are some ways to curb the craving for sweets? It seems the only thing that works for me is going "cold turkey" and avoiding all sweets all the time. I'm one of those people who can't eat just one cookie or one spoonful of ice cream. I'm not obese, but I'd like to eat healthier and be able to enjoy an occasional treat like many other people do.

What are some ways to tame a sweet tooth?
There are a few things that I do.





1) do not buy anything sweet...it's it's not right there, you won't eat it





2) add some lemon to your water to sweeten it





3) If I REALLY crave something sweet, I drink a cup of speramint tea (you can the tea bags at any supermarket ... just do NOT add any milk or sugar to it). The taste of the tea sort of tricks me into thinking I am having something sugary. ( I normally have a cup of it everyday in the afternoon to curb my mid-afternoon cravings)

Reply:I found the BEST alternative..... Redi whip!! (in the can) they have a chocolate flavor and its only 15 calories.... 2 spoonfuls of that and my chocolate craving is gone and I don't feel guilty cause there is only 15 calories and NO FAT!!!!!!!! CHA CHING!
Reply:I keep asking myself the same question. Mainly everytime you want something sweet pick up a pear, or a strawberry any fruit really and dig in. I cut it up and take my time eating it so I get fuller faster.
Reply:me either. Im doing slimming world at the moment and the lack of chocolate is agony. The only thing i suggest is your favourite fruits. When i fancy something sweet i try and make a fruit salad, or just grab a banana or strawberries. And if im really weak i reach for the sugar free polos!!! I dont have any really damaging good stuff in the house as my willpower is attrociously low!

Eat sweet and tart fruits. They are soooo good. It helps me! Lemons, limes, bananas, tart apples, pineapple, especially strawberries! It cures your mouth's craving for sweet things and fills you up so you won't want much more. If you know how to make them, smoothies are also good!

Take it from me a sweet-a-holic who has lost over 100 pounds this works, Candy doesn't really satisfy the intense craving so go for the dried foods that are natural and loaded with fiber . Drink lots of water to, and you can even buy the flavored water that has no calories but has a sweet taste to calm that candy attack...Good luck!!
Reply:Get rid of the candy. Not only is it not good for your weight its also very bad for your teeth. But if you do eat it just make sure to brush your teeth and do everything else like floss and use mouthwash so that the sugar isn't sitting there eating away at them.


Diabetic with sweet tooth?

Im the kind of person where everything raises my blood sugar. Is there an abosolute snack (sugary) that wont raise my blood sugar at all. (bigger than gum). i tried splenda, ive tried sugar alcohols, pudding has sugar alcohols too?





Nothing on the market like candy, that is basically no effect. Your help is very appreciated. Who thinks splenda has a weird after taste, and can point me to a better tasting alternative for sweetners. Thanks a lot

Have you tried the atkins candy bars? Usually they are small, but that's usually enough to get me past a bad craving. Read the labels carefully to make sure the carbs, sugars, and fiber are all good.

Easy, Inexpensive, Sweet-tooth recipes 4 kids?

Hi! Im babysitting for a 4 yr old, this summer, and thought it would be a cool idea to bake something with her!





My first thought, was to make something, like, Chex Mix Muddy Buddies.. Only, she doesn't like chocolate...





I could easily buy a bag of cookie mix.. But i would rather stick to my original idea. This way, we dont have to worry about her and the oven.

Reply:You should buy a cake mix and some frosting. It is inexpensive, fun, easy, and delicious! Cake mixes come in many different flavors so you don't have to worry about the chocolate! Have fun!

1 or 2 bags miniature marshmallows


1 tablespoon butter


2 cups Kellogg's Rice Crispy Cereal





Melt butter in a saucepan. Add marshmallows.





Stir until mixture becomes difficult to stir any more. Mix in the Rice Crispy Cereal and stir until hot.





Butter a pan (a square pan like a brownie pan) and spread mixture evenly in the pan. Allow to cool and cut into squares.

She can help decorate too. If you have a good mixer handy, a homemade frosting is super easy and quick to put together. If not, the "whipped" canned frostings are pretty good. Other than baking- frozen juice bars are real inexpensive- and you can make those from sugar-free juice. Frozen bananas on a stick are a hit at my house. If she doesn't like chocolate, she might like it dipped in melted white chocolate. Coat first, put on wax paper, and freeze. Great for a summer day!

Mice or sweet tooth spiders ?

I get mice in my shed and have caught a few but last night I laid 3 traps baited with usual chocolate and this morning chocolate gone and traps unsprung either the mice have took the bait S.A.S style or there is something more sinister going on the traps were set to a very fine point and the shed was locked how did they avoid the chop!

Very fat mice who sat on the trap and didn't allow it to close on them, you are feeding them too well....................

Reply:Could be a loud noise set off the traps if they are set too fine. Or could be a rat; they can get the food from a mouse trap even if the trap springs they can get out of it.


Try a rat trap and see what happens. I doubt it is a spider.


They like fresh meat on the wing.
Reply:Try using peanut butter on your traps.It's stickier and harder to get off making it easier to trap them.


I get mice in my shed too so I leave mouse bait in there all the time and get rid of them pretty quickly.


I just put it on some old saucers and up high enough that my dog or grandkids could never reach it.

2 cups cake flour


1/2 teaspoon salt


5 large eggs

1 cup crushed Oreo cookies (do not even think of using reduced fat or those ones that are already crushed up!)


1 cup vanilla frosting (Betty Crocker works great!)





Directions:


Cream butter, sugar and vanilla.


Gradually add flour and salt.


Add eggs one at a time.


Mix untill well blended.


Fold cookies in until well blended.


Pour into greased and floured (be sure to generously grease and flour pan) 10 x 6 loaf pan.


Bake at 325° for 1 hour or until knife comes out clean.


let cake cool completely (you may want to leave the house as the smell could cause you to tear into it before you have a chance to ice it).


Place cake on wax paper.


Heat frosting in it's container in microwave 20 seconds or until it can be poured.


Pour over cake.


Garnish with additional crushed cookies.

Ingredients:


1 package Thawed Puff Pastry Sheets


Egg Wash (as needed)


1 oz. Coarse Decorative Sugar (any variety)





Directions:


Be sure the package of puff pastry is fully thawed, but still cold. Working on a clean flat surface sprinkled with flour, place one sheet of the dough on the board and lightly flour both sides. Roll the sheet of dough slightly to ensure it is flat and even.


Cut Using a (rolling) pizza cutter, cut evenly into six long strips.


Wrap Wrap the strips of dough onto the Cream Horn Tubes. Over lap the dough slightly as it spirals down the tube. Press firmly onto the balking paper so the loose end is under the shell.


Garnish Brush down the center of the shell with egg wash - using a brush. Lift from the baking paper and evenly dip the top into the Decorative Sugar. Replace to the pan for baking.


Bake Bake in a preheated 375°(F) oven for about 20 minutes. Carefully remove the tube so the interior can bake. Continue baking another 10 minutes or until they become crispy and brown.


Variations: Shell can be made ahead of time and stored in a dry place.








Creme Filling:





8 oz. heavy whipping cream


2 oz. powdered sugar


1 tsp. vanilla extract





Directions


Mix ingredients together. Store - chilled in a covered container until needed. Before whipping cream, it is best to chill the mixing bowl, preferrably in the freezer. Using a wire whip and a fast speed, whip until stiff and firm.


Use whipped cream as soon as possible after whipping. Refrigerate any unused amounts, which can be re-whipped with the addition of fresh whipping cream.


Fill each pastry to the top and enjoy!

boy i have the same problem-i'm one of those that need to "finish the meal." rather than denying yourself something, only have a small piece of something really fabulous. get very dark, very good chocolate. and cut back on sodas. for some reason those seem to trigger b/c of the excess sugar. or to distract go for a walk. not only will you not eat sweets but you'll get in exercise and lose weight!

Grocery stores are full of things that are low in fat and sugar..and still taste great. Also if you feel it coming on, try drinking a large glass of crystal light or water. Crystal light(depending on the flavor) gives ya a sweet boost without the calories.

You know eating too many sweets is bad for your health, but when you try to lessen your intake, the urge just gets worse. What would be a good substitute? Is there a patch for this, lol!

It worked for me. I was a sweet-o-holic and went nearly 6 months without any. The first few weeks were tough but after that I barely thought about it.

In terms of killing a sweet tooth, chewing sugarless gum seems to work for a lot of people. However, sometimes you could just put pre-portioned sweets/candies so that you can just enjoy what you really want, but in a smaller quantity.
Reply:I have found that when you try to cut something out of your diet completely, it's much easier to snap one day and binge on it. I lost about 15 pounds in a year...by making sure I had one big DQ blizzard a week. It worked! :)





Also, whenever I went out to eat, I would make a snap decision and order something healthy without thinking about it too much, 'cause then they're gone and it's a hassle to change your order so you're stuck with it...after a while I PREFERRED the salads to the burgers, just by getting in the habit.
Reply:definitely no patch- just time and persistence. replace sweets with other tasty treats and avoid places you consume a lot of them. Eventually, you won't even miss them.
Reply:When you crave something sweet reach for a piece of fruit instead of a piece of candy or some other type of processed sugar. This will help train your brain into associating sweet with healthy food as opposed to junk. When you absolutely must have something chocolate or candy like go for sugar free chocolate pudding snacks or sugar free jello snacks. If you are going to eat processed sugar, don't go overboard. Don't buy any processed food for your house because that way when you decide you really want a candy bar you have to go get it. When you get the candy bar, get a smaller one and eat 1/4 to 1/2 of it. Wait 10-15 minutes and if you are still craving sugar eat a piece of fruit or cheat and finish the candy bar (once in a while won't hurt you). Some of my favorite sugar subsitutes are:





Frozen Grapes


Apples


Bananas


Jello Choco Pudding (sugar free)


Jello Cherry/ strawberry/ raspberry (sugar free0


Mixing the above two items together


sugar free juice pops


skinny cow ice cream bars (sugar free).





Always start with fruit first and if that doesn't work then go to another option. Wait 10-15 minutes before trying another option to see if the craving goes away.
