How can i kick the sweet tooth?

i crave chocolate somethin' fierce. and if there's sweets in the house i have to avert my eyes or else i want to eat them! my husband eats sweets every night after dinner --- sometimes he eats like two or three servings. now, he is VERY fit and active and not concerned about gaining weight. i'm average build, not overweight but want to stay that way. my question is, are my cravings the result of some other deficiency i can address? are there any tricks for keeping these kinds of cravings at bay? help!

How can i kick the sweet tooth?
I'd say that your cravings are simply because you delight in the pleasure it brings you... and to know that there is research to hint that consuming chocolates gives you a little bit of that "falling in love feeling" it's not hard to see why...

The hardest part about giving up a craving is the **giving up** part. When you experience loss your mind interprets it as pain and it will do whatever it can to avoid pain... and when you consider the only way to avoid that pain is to indulge in a wonderful pleasure of eating it... you're really asking for a kick in the gut every time you try to give it up, huh?

I can't give you the *trick* that will help you give it up but I can give you a little insight that might make the next trick work...

What you need to do is swap/switch/reverse your beliefs about the chocolate. Instead of feeling pain because you're avoiding chocolate, think of all the pain and discomfort it will cause if you give into temptation. Instead of feeling the guilty pleasure of giving in, feel the pride of having the strength of will to decline.

Now, you might think about all the calories it costs you to eat and how much extra exercise and extra inconvience all around just to induldge.

Time is a huge one for me, I could care less about a calorie or two, but when you tell me that dessert means that I have to waste another extra hour on a elyptical machine just to balance out a dessert really makes me think twice because my time is my most prized and valued resource. No one wastes my time but me, and when I do, it better be worth it. ;-p
Reply:get your blood sugar checked. you may be a vampire and its an iron issue
Reply:go 2 the dentist
Reply:me too..... i'm trying to quit cigs and candy chocolate is filling in for my addiction and adding on pounds of unwanted bulk and then i must spend 2 hours daily at the gym trying to work it off. very foolish me !

don't allow chocolate into the house is best remedy i believe
Reply:When Youwant some sweets, eat a bannana instead. it works for me.
Reply:after checking your blood sugar by a physician .. if there's no issue there... have a piece a night - maybe a hershey kiss or a dove square.. if you limit yourself to that you won't gain weight. women in general are suseptable to sweet cravings and it's kind of hormonal - but if you don't abuse then you won't gain. Your husband's activity allows him to indulge - if you're concerned about gaining - why don't you do something together to keep trim!
Reply:Try this, instead of having sweets around, have fruit. Apples, pears, Bananas, Kiwi. They are all good and sweet like candy, but they are also good for you. After a while you may find yourself liking the fruit more.
Reply:Wish I knew myself,I have to watch my weight.drink slimmers hot chocolate-or the more you deprive yourself of sweet things the more you will crave, it is not easy.good luck.
Reply:Dark chocolate has many health benefits. Too much candy is harmful to the pancreas which may slowly lose the effectiveness of ones insulin function leading to type 2 diabetes. Limit your treats to once a week. Personally, I had to remove the sweets from my home. Talk to your husband about exchanging the sweets for healthier ones like dried fruits, nuts, veggies.Abstinence from sweets will lose the craving in about 6 weeks. Good luck and have a healthy year.
