Could my anxiety and depression and "head confusion" be partially due to my sweet tooth?

I do have moderate depression and anxiety but sometimes I wonder if the main reason for my mood swings and my inability to think clearly is my diet. I've been trying lately to eat more healthfully and reduce fats and sugar from my diet. I was going strong for awhile and had started feeling better and having more energy. But sometimes I just fall off the wagon and don't use any self-control, and just eat what I want, which usually includes a lot of sweet things. I know I shouldn't but sometimes, like when I'm having PMS (like now!) I just don't care. But then I end up paying for it. My question is, does sugar cause a person to not be able to think clearly; to have what I call "brain fog" where you can't get out of your own way, so to speak, and do the tasks and prioritizing that daily life requires? I have this brain fog in the worst way and have been blaming it on my depression. It's awful and I hate it. Can a reduced-sugar diet really help me? Thanks for any help!

Could my anxiety and depression and "head confusion" be partially due to my sweet tooth?
Yes it is definitely partially responsible. Refined sugar uses up B vitamins in the body. Site below explains how B vitamins are needed for mental health. Site below addresses the other causes PARTIALLY responsible.

Eat more of nature's (not man's) sugar-- fruit.
Reply:Sounds like you're pre-type 2 diabetic.
Reply:Yep, it could almost definitely help. Large amounts of sugar, or just unhealthy diets in general, can exacerbate pretty much any mental disorder or illness under the sun. They throw your body's internal balances into turmoil, so you're constantly either on a sugar high or a crash, which, when added to mood swings, can really make you seem like a crazy.

But you know what, sometimes everyone slips up. The key is not to let it ruin your whole day. If you eat a cookie, don't think, "Oh well, I'll start again tomorrow," and eat the rest of the packet, because you won't start again tomorrow. If you're really, really desperate for something sweet (I sympathise with the PMS thing), then limit it! Buy one SMALL chocolate bar, or a mini packet of cookies. The less sugar you eat, the less you're going to want, because your blood sugar levels will be more even.
