What to do with a sweet tooth?

i'm trying to get off of sweets i've been hooked for most of my life, wich is obviously not good for my health. Unfortunatly this was brought on by my father because when I was younger he was hooked on sweets too and he eventually got diabetes, oh and also diabetes runs in my family too

What to do with a sweet tooth?
I also have a sweet tooth and am trying to lose weight. Personally, I limit things more than I cut them out.

For example, instead of having the fat and calorie saturated ice cream (and tons of it), I have the serving size of the double churned light ice cream. Instead of having one huge piece of cake, I have just a couple smaller pieces throughout the day (or none, which is even better!).

However, I DO (try) to cut out things like cookies, chips, cupcakes, etc.

You don't have to cut every little thing out, just some of them. Limit the others. Like only have sweets a couple times a week instead of every day.

Also, you can replace the sweet-tasting junk with sweet-tasting fruits and the like. They can be a great alternative, and you can learn to like them just as much as you like the sweets that are bad for you.

Hope this helped. =]
Reply:Fruit is a good thing you can start replacing your sweets with. Try an apple instead of a cupcake.

Reply:I've recently combated this problem with cheese! Try different kind of cheeses and find the ones you like. When you are hungry for sweets.....chop off a slice of cheese from a block and eat it slowly. This really really works! You'll be amazed! I know I was!
Reply:So, all the reason you should take steps to cut your intake of sweets and replace them with appropriate other things which provide natural sweetness like fruit! You may also consider chewing raw sugar-cane if available around you.
Reply:Just so you know, sugar does NOT cause diabetes - that is a myth. If you HAVE diabetes, then you need to watch what you eat. Best of luck. Your avatar is way cute!
Reply:Chew gum, that helps me, or chew on carrots. Good luck.
Reply:get a smoothie machine and have one whenever you crave sweets, fruit is sweet , just not in the way sweets are but you will learn to love the sweetness of the fruit instead of the sweets!

and they are really good for you and they are really filling!
Reply:Fruits are great to replace chocolate and such..(not as good, I KNOW!) Also, PB is pretty sweet and is a decent source of protein. Sugar free candies are better for you..but need to be careful with those...can cause problems if too much is eaten, like stomache pain and such.....Whip topping is light and sweet and can also be sugar free. I enjoy grapes, bananas, and berries all mixed together. Sugar free jello is a good choice. They have chocolate flavored yogurts now! There are a ton of choices if you just look!
Reply:My mom's parents had diabetes, and now my mom has been eatting to much sugar, and now she might have diabetes!!! I definatly dont want to get it becasue i love sugar!!! I need help to lol.

I seem to love strawberries, they are very sweet, im trying to eat more of those instead of sugar!
Reply:I Have the same issue..

You can Try Eating Sugar Free Candies..

Cutting Up Strawberrys and adding some splenda..

You Can also Buy Frozen Rasberrys..

Sugar Free Jello/Pudding/Ice cream/Cookies..

Or you can slowly Minimize the amout you consume a day..

For Example If you eat normally 3 chocolate bars each day minimize the amount a day by one half soo u would eat 2 and one half one day then 2 the next then one and a half and so on..

Good Luck Im a Sucker for sweets to and diabetes runs in my family also
Reply:Studies by the University of Liverpool show that there are several things you can do to stop craving sweet or sugary things.

Firstly, the study shows that eating fruit helps as the natural sugars raise your serotonin level and satisfy your sweet tooth, but fruit also contains fiber to slow down sugar absorption. This prevents your blood sugar levels from fluctuating rapidly and causing sugar cravings later.

Second, you can reduce your dependence on sweet things with some supplements that keep your blood sugar levels steady by regulating the way your body breaks down and uses sugar. Take 4,000 mcg of biotin, a B complex with 100 percent of the daily value of the B vitamins, 200 mcg of chromium, and 1,000 mg of magnesium in divided doses with meals every day. This high dose of magnesium may cause diarrhea; reduce your dose if this happens. These supplements should help conquer cravings in as little as one week, but you can take them indefinitely to regulate your blood sugar levels.

Remedies such as ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and shilajeet (also spelled "shilajit") also suppress sugar cravings. They help your body adapt to stress so you won't depend on sugar to boost your mood, and they also regulate sugar absorption. These remedies are available in natural food stores. Take 500 mg of ashwagandha extract standardized to 5 percent withanoloides three times a day and 500 mg of shilajeet daily, in addition to the above nutrients. Your cravings will diminish within a day or two, after which you can stop taking the remedies.
