I have a sweet tooth that I just cannot control! Somebody please help me!?

Since halloween came up, I got a lot of candy. A few days after my candy collectinng, I learned how bad sugar is for your body and brain, and that 1 giant snickers bar has enough sugar to last you 1 and a half weeks!

So i decided to cut back. For a few days, it worked. I felt urges to eat them, but I didn't eat sweets. I gave my sister the candy. Sadly, my mother bought the delicious russian candy with sweet real jam inside. I couldn't resist. I ate a few, but I didn't gorge myself.

How can I stop myself?? I am not heavy, in fact, I am slender, tall, and I do ballroom dance. I do not drink sugary sodas, I don't like soda in general. Instead, I drink orange juice, which I am trying to replace with water.

Someone please help me!! I have tried eating fruits instead (like pomigranite) but after a while, it all comes back!

HELP!

I have a sweet tooth that I just cannot control! Somebody please help me!?
I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you; the real problem rolls around when people eat too much fat and don't excersize or do anything to stay fit. But good for you for worrying.

First, you should eliminate ALL CANDY from your household. Just throw it away. If your mom really has a hard time getting rid of her good stuff, just tell her (and the other family members) to keep their candy where you can't see it and won't "run into it" (basically, hide it). When you think about the candy you're missing, pull out your faithful pomegranite and think about how good and sweet it is- tell yourself it's BETTER than candy!

Something that may be of interest to you that I heard on the radio is that it takes 30 straight days to kick a habit. (No cheating, or else it won't work). If you stop something for 30 days, your ability to "quit" it dramatically increases, (and as long as it's not something literally addictive like drugs), almost everyone doesn't feel the need to return to the nasty habit afterwards.

Good LUck!
Reply:It's not a crime to indulge in a craving at times!!

You don't have a weight problem so treat yourself maybe once or twice a day with a smaller piece--not like a pound of M%26amp;Ms or anything--but a sucker, or a couple fun size chocolate bars.

Moderation is the key to EVERYTHING in life!
Reply:sugar is huge is bad for of course, but things like a few russian candies aren't going to hurt, ensure that you are eating a balanced diet to comba the sugar and you'll be fine, but if you are trying to cut back, try going to sugar free sweets and fruit salads as well as eating honey, its sweet without the bad calaries.
Reply:You could try sugarless sweets. There is a range of sweets without sugar formulated for diabetics. They should be available from health food outlets.

You're doing the right thing by limiting your sugar intake. In the long term, you could become diabetic yourself.

Imagine having to prick your finger two or three times daily to test your blood and then inject insulin into your veins.

Once you have diabetes, there is no cure.
Reply:i dont think you should be worrying about the way you eat, as you said, your slender and you dance, sugar cant be that bed for you if you eat a couple peices a day. sometimes when you try to avoid something you have a bigger desire to have it so i think you shouldnt worry so much about your health
Reply:The best way to get rid of sugar craving is to not eat any sweet stuff (and I mean NONE) for awhile. I know it sounds tough. But the less you eat, the less you will want to eat. After some time you won't even have a craving.
Reply:First, you can control it you just said you had for "a few days". You just won't. It is called self discipline for a reason. Because it takes disciplining yourself (very self explanatory, huh?) to control your behavior. So you need to work on that.

That said, if you are healthy a little bit of sugar is okay. As long as you normally eat healthy you can treat yourself once in a while. You said you didn't gorge even after going without, and you don't tank on soda so what harm a bit of indulgence. As long as you stay in control.
Reply:I know this sounds crazy....but brushing your teeth immediately after having one (or two) pieces/ bites...or pop a piece of mint gum in your mouth.

I have the same 'challenge' w/ desserts. I now either split w/ someone or take a few bites then put pepper or hot sauce on the dessert. I know it's wasteful...but, it satisfies my craving and also makes me feel that maybe I'm wasting $ and my health...so, makes me think twice next time.

Obviously not a clincial response....but, might help along w/ some of the other responses you've received.

One additional thought re: giving up sodas (good for you!). Rather than replacing w/ still water. Consider sparkling water. The carbonation is somehow 'filling'. Use a little juice to add flavor if you'd like. It's my understanding that replacing soda w/ juice may not help the cause as it's replacing sugar w/ sugar (esp if it's not fresh squeezed).

Cheers.
Reply:DRINK WATER WATER WATER!!!!! water helps your craving go away and makes you relize that you really don't want the candy. to much FAT
