I want to lose weight and fast but how can I get rid of my sweet tooth craving and Dr.Pepper addiction?

I had a mountain dew addiction and a friend told me to start substituting unsweet tea. Has no calories and now that I am used to it, mountain dew tastes syrupy. The best part is that since tea has a little caffeine, no withdrawal headaches. I lost 5 pounds in one week just by cutting out the soda. Once that happened, it motivated me to cut out the sweets as well.

I want to lose weight and fast but how can I get rid of my sweet tooth craving and Dr.Pepper addiction?
You don't, because then you pig out when you do get it. You have to cut back and try smaller amounts and less often. For example, get a 20oz bottle of dr. pepper and pour it into a four ounce paper cup then have a glass of water for the rest of your drink with your meal. If you can control yourself to only drink 4oz of soda with a meal instead of an entire can, you have just cut back a lot. Get mini candy bars and put 2 in a ziplock bag. Only allow yourself those two small candy bars each time instead of an entire candy bar or a bag of candy.

Reply:The Dr. Pepper addiction is a three-pronged problem, based on sugar, caffeine, and taste.

Wean yourself off caffeine, search for alternate caffeine sources (like coffee or tea, which don't taste as good, but have less sugar IF you add only a small amount to them), or quit cold turkey and deal with the awful caffeine withdrawal headache for a day or so.

You really should save caffeine for when you really need it, like, say, when you have a migraine. The rest of the time, you need to get your sleep and schedule in order so that you're not relying on caffeine to keep you alert.

As far as the sugar goes, an easy way to cut down sugar intake is to eat your sugar rather than drink it (and NO high fructose corn syrup! Read labels...it's all over the place. But you can avoid it.) Eat fruit, eat candy made with sugar, eat chocolate, but DON'T DRINK SODA.

It has been proven in studies that sugar that is eaten in food is much more satisfying than sugar that is drunk in beverages. Also, carbonated liquids need more sugar than still beverages (which is why Gatorade has 50 calories for 8 ounces, whereas colas have about 100.)

Try sugar-sweetened sodas for those dire soda cravings (Jones Green Apple soda, while higher in sugar than most sodas, seems to curb cravings. I don't know if it's the flavor or the real sugar in it, but it works.)

If you can stand it, try a low-carb (NOT no-carb) diet. Veggies, proteins, some whole grains. A little fruit. Make your carbs count, and you won't be trapped in the sugar rush-sugar crash cycle.

If some simple dietary changes don't help, go to the doc and make sure you don't have any hormonal issues. Blood sugar problems can make it extremely hard to lose weight and can make you have terrible cravings.

And if you must, drink caffeine-free Dr. Pepper. Regular, I mean. Tastes good, at least won't feed you extra caffeine.

Edit: I mean carbonated beverages need more sugar to overcome the acidity of the carbonation. Ever notice that flat soda tastes sweeter than fizzy? That's because the acidity from the bubbles is gone and it tastes crazy sweet.

So no carbonated beverages. Unless you want to drink club soda, which is nasty.

I don't recommend that.
Reply:Hello. I have a solution to your problem.

Diet Dr. Pepper can lose you 7 lbs a week or more. But, if you drink many a day, you will still get the effects of drinking one Dr. Pepper.

For your sweet tooth craving, try low fat and/or 0% fat alternatives. Low fat or caloriefree items can help you eat great food but still lose weight. If you want a small meal that is not sweet, I recommend any of the Smart Ones meals. Go to your local groceries and look for TV dinners that is made specifically to help people like you lose weight.

Slim Fast has many drinks (my favorite is Chocolate. I drink it even though I'm thin as a horse. Shh!). If you like Chocolate Milk or Strawberry Shakes.. whatever, you can find low calorie and low fat solutions with Slim Fast.
