Is it normal for cats to have a sweet tooth?

Our cat, 9 months old, loves to eat: egg bread (challah bread), blueberries, olives, and dried apricots. The challah bread in particular drives him wild - he will try to take it out of my mouth.

Has anyone else come across a cat that eats these things? They don't seem to do him any harm.

Is it normal for cats to have a sweet tooth?
I have a cat that LOVES ice cream and yogurt. All I have to do is say "Ice Cream" and he comes running. He is so funny, too, he will eat from a spoon (plastic of course) and is content to eat until I stop.
Reply:i have a cat that goes absolutely bonkers over marshmellows!!
Reply:i think their not becuase they need to be strong so they could bite hard stuff like bones if you give them chicken.
Reply:None of those things are toxic to cats, so don't worry. :3 too much bread/wheat is bad for kitty tummies, so don't let him nibble that challah bread too often.

Some scientists have recently stated that cats lack the ability to taste sweetness, but I don't believe it. My little Mochi adores his sweets; when I bake using condensed milk, he always tries to lick the can, hehe!
Reply:my cat LOVES!! coffee and pizza! She has knocked down the coffee maker and several glass with only a drop left in them to get the coffee! Now we can't have it in the house anymore. My other cat is pretty picky and will only eat cat food and try to drink milk from my glass.
Reply:My cat loves bread! He goes into the kitchen at night and chews a hole in the plastic bag to get at the bread inside. We have to keep the bread in a bread box now so he doesn't reach it. He also loves vanilla ice cream and yogurt and will try to crawl all over me to get some.
Reply:My parents had a cat that used to go crazy for corn on the cob. He would literally go into a frenzy if one were put in front of him. Corn does have a slightly sweetish taste. I've heard that cats can't taste sweets but I'm not so sure. I've had cats that loved ice cream, cake frosting, and brownies.
Reply:I don't think any of that would be harmful, as long as it isn't all he eats. I have one that will take a few laps of my cold coffee. He won't drink my husband's coffee and the only reason I can think of is, I put sugar in mine, but he doesn't. Just keep him away from chocolate, that is toxic to cats.
Reply:Don't give it that. Give it normal cat food. Also NEVER give it anything with caffeine in it because caffeine WILL kill a cat.
