How do I cure myself of a sweet tooth?

Actually, I have 'sweet teeth'. I understand the concept of 'just don't eat sweets'. What I need are tips to cure the desire to want to eat sweets!

How do I cure myself of a sweet tooth?
So far..everyone has a good answer. I soo agree with them.

It is very, very hard to go cold turkey. I agree with gradual reduction of your sugary intake. Plus the substitutions is good and healthy, too.

But have you looked at when and why you crave sugar?? As in are you stressed, needing a pick me up, PMS, hungry, etc?? I crave it especially while PMS'n.

I used to keep a stash of candy at my desk...now I keep yogurt, fruit, and sugar free gum handy.
Reply:fruits!!! bananas are best.
Reply:Don't try to cut yourself off all at once. Gradually wean yourself off sweets. (ie if you drink three pops a day, cut it down to 2, then 1, then 0.) Also, try to find less unhealthy replacements for sweets. I started having chocolate milk instead of whole chocolate bars.
Reply:As a chocoholic, I feel for you.

The reality is that the only thing that will stop the cravings, is to stop eating it.

The longer you go without your sweets, the less your body will crave them. That is just the way it works.

I cut out sweets about 2 months ago, and now it is much better as I don't crave them very often. But when I do I just give in and have a little bit. Also, get rid of the junk out of your house and ban people from bringing it to you!

Substitute fresh fruit (not juice though) and if that is the only thing available you will have no choice. After a few weeks you will notice you actually start craving the fruits.

Good luck, breaking old habits is hard, hard, hard. But it can be done.
